In 2023, a new South Australian Cross Border Commissioner - Liz McKinnon - has commenced work.

Since 2015, I advocated strongly for such a role, but it became a priority in 2020, following the ongoing impact from the Covid-19 pandemic and state border closures.

The city of Mount Gambier and surrounding districts is in a unique position, given our close proximity to the Victorian border, with many residents living, working and travelling regularly across both states.

A Cross Border Commissioner can advocate for South Australian residents and also establish close working relationships with the Victorian and New South Wales Cross Border Commissioners to streamline processes and reduce red tape for residents and businesses. 

I've spoken numerous times about this matter in State Parliament, including a motion in 2018 and a question direct to the Premier in 2021.
