Thursday March 09, 2023Proposed subsidy to support regional nursing students Mount Gambier MP, Troy Bell says regional nursing students deserve a Government subsidy to help them complete placements in Adelaide.
Mr Bell successfully moved a motion in State Parliament yesterday calling for the State Government to financially support nursing students in regional areas.
He says subsidies for city-based students to complete placements in regional areas should also work the other way.
Member for Mount Gambier, Troy Bell says having to pay to travel for periods of unpaid placements is tough for regional students: “Particularly if you’re a young mum, or you’ve got a family, to be away for eight weeks or 16 weeks is a significant amount of time, and the fact that you can’t do your casual job or the job that you’re doing for paid income is a real disadvantage.”
