Generosity on show

Friday August 04, 2023

IT'S quite incredible to see our community get behind a cause and the AC Care Homelessness Luncheon is one of those events where I'm reminded of the generosity of our town.

After a five year hiatus for the event, there were nearly 450 business people in the Barn, all on the same mission to help raise funds for one of the region's most important fundraising events.

Thanks to our Premier Peter Malinauskas for taking the time to attend and give the keynote speech.

It was the Premier's last minute offer of a dinner for ten people at Parliament House tipped the fundraising total to $127,700 - $2k over the 2018 total.

However, the speakers that most resonated with me were the two women who shared their own personal stories of homelessness and the ongoing support and care they got from AC Care.

Well done on winning the top raffle prize too I couldn't think of a more well deserved winner.

The last few years have taught us that homelessness can affect every single one of us, through circumstance or luck.

Homelessness is everyone's business and the more we pull together and combine efforts, the better the outcomes for local people.

Big events are a team effort.

There are too many names and businesses to mention personally in this column but I'd like to commend every single one of you for helping bring this important event to life.

I know the late Barry Maney, who with Barry Stafford brought the event to life over ten years ago, would be incredibly proud to see his legacy continue.
