Festivities with dash of thoughtfulness

Friday December 15, 2023

CHRISTMAS truly is one of my favourite times of the year.

It is fantastic to see the city come alive for the festive season.

The Christmas pageant, Christmas markets and last weekend’s Carols were tremendous highlights, bringing the community together to celebrate both long-standing traditions and to create new ones.

The streets are decorated with Christmas cheer and many small businesses have got into the Christmas spirit.

If, like me, you tend to leave present shopping for the last minute, there is still an opportunity to shop locally and support our wonderful business community.

It is also a time to think about those less fortunate than ourselves, and this year has proven to be especially challenging for many.

For those spending the holidays alone, oping with loss, or feeling financial pressure to support their families during this season, any kindness extended to the less fortunate in our community is always greatly appreciated.

The Mount Gambier Community Christmas lunch at the city hall is a wonderful initiative and the volunteers do a fantastic job every year providing a friendly, comforting environment and delicious Christmas meal.

I encourage anyone to reach out to the team if they need assistance.

During the holiday period our roads are always busier, and the last few months have seen increased road works in our area.

I would like to thank everyone for their patience and understanding as crews work to make repairs to our local road networks.

If you are travelling to visit family and friends over the holiday period, please take the time to plan, drive to the conditions and take regular breaks.

It’s also important to remember that not everyone gets a break during this time, and I am thankful for all of those who spend the holidays working.

I would also like to send a sincere thank you to our dedicated emergency services personnel, who work tirelessly during the festive season to ensure our safety.

Team Bell, my family, and I, all wish you a safe and Merry Christmas, and I look forward to working with you all in 2024.
