MP Troy Bell is encouraging local recreational fishers to put their hand up for a spot on the South Australian Government’s new Minister’s Recreational Fishing Advisory Council.
The council will provide advice and feedback to the government on issues and initiatives impacting the recreational fishing sector across the state.
Nominations close in February and Mr Bell said the Limestone Coast should have a representative.
“It’s important our region has a voice on the council,” he said.
“We have a strong recreational fishing community in our region and this is a great opportunity for someone to represent the Limestone Coast in an advisory and decision-making capacity.
“Whether you are a weekend angler or a charter boat operator, you play a role in this sector and can bring your knowledge and personal experience to the council.
“I encourage interested people to put their names forward.”
The council will have eight members and five will be directly elected by the state’s recreational fishing community.
Three members will come from RecFish SA, FishinSA and the South Australian Fishing Alliance.
Mr Bell said the council will play a major role in shaping the future of South Australia’s recreational fishing industry.
“A thriving recreational fishing industry means jobs and opportunities for local communities,” he said. “Now is your chance to get involved.”
Nominations close at 9am on 11 February, 2019 at www.yourSAy.sa.gov.au/fishing
