Independent member for Mount Gambier, Troy Bell, is reminding motorists to slow down around buses with their lights flashing.
“Bus operators have expressed their frustrations to me at the number of vehicles that do not slow down to 25km per hour when passing a bus with its lights flashing. This is putting children at risk when they are getting on or off a school bus.
Mr Bell also warned that failure to slow down to 25km per hour could result in a hefty fine, especially if the car is travelling in 80km or 110km zone.
“I want to remind people that a bus with its lights flashing is either collecting or dropping off children, and you need to slow to 25km/hr.
Mr Bell recently met with Ali Auld, Regional Road Safety Officer from the Limestone Coast Local Government Association, to work on delivering a wider campaign of awareness, particularly through schools, to keep our kids safe around buses.
